Marvel Caves

For over 50 years, Marvel Caves has been open as a tourist attraction. They’re made up of wet limestone, with alive and growing formations! Marvel Caves are located within Silver Dollar City amusement park in Branson MO. The Osage Indians called it The Devil’s Den because of the strange sounds. Spanish explorers explored searching for gold and the fountain of youth. William Henry Lynch first opened it to spelunking tourists over 100 years ago in 1894.  In 1950 the Herschends leased it and it’s what started Silver Dollar City building and creation. Early explorers looked for marble inside the Marvel Cave Branson MO corridors, but bat guano was their prize instead.  Bat guano was mined for 5 years as a prized fertilizer. Today Marvel Caves are an unforgettable experience and a giant underground park with falls and a guided tour activity.

Marvel Cave Tours

The unique thing about this attraction is Marvel Cave tours are included with your ticket to Silver Dollar City. Tours depart approximately every half hour. At the start of the Marvel Cave tours visitors travel 300 feet underground and enter the Cathedral Room. The incredible awe-inspiring Cathedral Room is the largest cave entrance room in America. The visitors trail is a series of stairs. Tours are approximately 60 minutes, and spelunking tourists climb nearly 600 stairs. In the early days, visitors descended a 60 foot ladder and down a huge pile of rocks by candlelight. On the way out tourists used pickaxes to climb back up to the ladder.

The most unique Marvel Cave tours are the famous lantern light tours. Visitors go back in time and experience this just like early explorers, with Lantern Light! Tour guides dress in settler costumes and tell unique stories historical facts to guests during this nostalgic quest into the heart of the Ozark mountain. Reviews constantly say definitely take the Lantern Tour. It’s an incredible awesome atmosphere and you hear all kinds of stories not told on the normal tour.
